Virologists from the Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Gdańsk are working on the creation of an effective new-generation vaccine protecting against infection with hepatitis C and B viruses. A decision has already been made to grant a patent for the invention entitled 'Chimeric virus-like particles exposing HCV antigenic sequences for use in the preventive treatment of HCV and/or HBV infection'.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has announced the results of the second call for applications for scholarships under the Iwanowska Programme. We are pleased to inform that the Polish-American Fulbright Commission Council together with J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board have decided to award dr hab. Robert Czajkowski, prof. UG with the Fulbright STEM Impact Award 2019 fellowship!

Dr hab. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak is the second author of the article published in the journal Science Translational Medicine: "Proof-of-concept clinical trial of etokimab shows a key role for IL-33 in atopic dermatitis pathogenesis". The work describes the first use of a new biological drug, etokimab, in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and the mechanism of its action.

Dr hab. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak received further funding from the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP) to develop collaboration with another FNP grant recipient. The PLN 1 mln grant will allow interdisciplinary research into innovative cancer therapies conducted together with prof. Jonathan Heddle from the Małopolska Centre  of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University.
