Prof. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak receives the 2026 EFIS Eastern Star Award

Prof. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, Head of the Laboratory of Experimental and Translational Immunology, has been awarded the 2026 EFIS Eastern Star Award, a prestigious distinction granted by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS).

Prof. Danuta Gutowska - Owsiak

The Eastern Star Award recognises scientists conducting outstanding research in the field of immunology in Eastern Europe. Each year, only three researchers from the region receive this distinction. The award provides funding for research materials required to carry out the awarded project.

As part of the awarded project, Prof. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak will investigate lipid-dependent immune responses in the lungs and the role of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) in their modulation. The project aims to improve our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the allergic march, which is the development and progression of successive manifestations of allergic diseases in patients.

The award recognises Prof. Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak’s achievements in the fields of immunology, epidermal barrier biology, and extracellular vesicle research. At the same time, it opens up new opportunities for advancing research conducted at the Laboratory of Experimental and Translational Immunology.

We warmly congratulate Professor Gutowska-Owsiak on this prestigious achievement and wish her continued success in the next stages of her research!
