Project title:

Antiviral activity of interferon induced transmembrane proteins (IFITM) as a novel therapeutic strategy to control viral infections – evaluation in vitro and in vivo

Project is carried out within the POWROTY (REINTEGRATION) programme of the Foundation for Polish Science

Project description:

The project aims at investigating the activity of interferon induced transmembrane proteins (IFITM) against tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. IFITM proteins are intensely investigated from 2009, when their antiviral activity was discovered in influenza model. The unique mode of action (blocking the entry of viruses to host cells) and versatility (ability to inhibit infection of many viruses like HCV, HIV, Ebola, ZIKA,) make them candidates for future antiviral therapeutic strategies. In the study we will investigate the IFITM proteins in terms of the mechanism of action and future use in such therapies.

Key responsibilities include:

Planning and performing experimental work under supervision of Principal Investigator – work with cell lines, construction of stable and knock-out lines (CRISPR), work with using molecular virology methods, detection of viral proteins and genetic material

Writing reports, analyzing results, presenting data on seminars and international conferences, writing scientific papers. Teaching responsibility according to the rules of PhD degree studies
