is looking for a PhD student within the NCN OPUS 21 project Universal vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 variants based on conserved spike protein epitopes – vaccine efficacy studies in vitro and in vivo

  • MSc degree in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, medical biology or related field.
  • Prior practical experience in molecular biology and protein analysis techniques (previous experience in recombinant protein production, mammalian cell culture and virus handling are not mandatory but welcome).
  • Public presentation skills.
  • Independence in research work - planning and performing experiments.
  • Ability to work in a team – good interpersonal communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Very good command of English, spoken and written.
  • Strong motivation for scientific work in the field of virology, immunology and vaccine design.


The PhD student will be involved in project funded by National Science Centre (OPUS-21, 2021/41/B/NZ6/02888) “Universal vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 variants based on conserved spike protein epitopes – vaccine efficacy studies in vitro and in vivo”. A successful candidate will take part in a vaccine design, preparing antigens for mouse immunization and analyzing immunological response against SARS-CoV-2 variants. 


  • Full-time PhD studies (4 years) in Intercollegiate Biotechnology Doctoral School of University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk.
  • Scholarship in amount 5000 pln/month (gross).
  • Scientific training and support.
  • Participation in scientific conferences, workshops and courses.
  • Collaboration with the excellent research laboratories in Europe.

  • A scientific CV supporting the requirements/eligibility criteria, including information on main scientific achievements (publications, conference reports, other scientific activities, awards, fellowships, training, courses, internships related to the project topic).
  • A copy/scan of the MSc diploma.
  • A motivation letter in English justifying the selection of this project.
  • Recommendation letter from previous supervisors confirming the required skills.

The PhD student will be selected in an open competition procedure by a recruitment committee accepted by the Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Gdańsk. The rules for recruitment and employment are included in Act No 95/2020 from the 14th of September 2020 r. by the National Science Centre.
