More than teaching - support & motivation of future scientists at IFB
A team of young researchers from Tri-City developed an innovative method that helps to fight diseases where antibiotics failed.
The authors of the research project are Martin Pitek, Olga Grudniak, Olgierd Kasprowicz, Filip Krawczyk i Natalia Dziedzic from the school III
LO in Gdynia.
They have been working under the scientific supervision of Prof. Michał Obuchowski (IFB), who consulted their idea prepared for participattin in
an international competition run by the Foundation International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) from US.
They worked together on a new form of therapy to help to replace antibiotics in the treatment of chronic diseases. They have modified the bacteria
Escherichia Coli, which generate biomolecules needed to destroy disease-causing agent (first step is Staphylococcus Aureus).
When asked to explain their motivation to engage in this project, the pupils reported that a lecture by Mariusz Grinholc, PhD from IFB has been
an important incentive.
